Well Pam had a good sleep last night. Me not so good. It's difficult getting to sleep when you have one eye open anticipating a strategically placed pillow on your face at any moment. Made it through the night though and all seems to have returned to normal? We are still very lonely in the hotel, there were a couple of other people at breakfast, I'm sure it is busy during the ski season. We left on time at about 8.30 with a 3.5 hour drive ahead of us to Semmering. We leave Croatia, drive through Slovenia and in to Austria, all in a couple of hours. Europe seems so small compared to Australia.
Upon leaving our hotel I casually suggested we should have had a GoPro for our drive yesterday. She said something about Go Jump, I've never heard of that brand and will have to Google it when we get home. She also said some words which sounded quite harsh and expletive, but that's not the Pam we know and love so I just put it down to my hearing failing??
Back to the drive to Austria. Through some of the most beautiful alpine country and through quite a few tunnels, the longest being over 10 kilometres long. Very hazy today, which didn't affect our viewing pleasure but it makes the photos a bit second rate.
You'll all be pleased to know I seemed to have redeemed myself in the accommodation stakes. We arrived at Semmering at about 1.30 without one navigational issue or off-road experience. Drove straight up to the motel and were able to check in. Walked down to the local shop (100 metres) bought some sandwiches for lunch, visited the local Information Centre. She claimed to be able to speak English but had no idea what we were asking. All we wanted was a 1 to 2 hour walk around the town. She gave us a map but no information. She showed us the route, we had lunch and set off. Up mountains and down valleys, over railway lines and out to lookouts. In the end it was a pretty good walk, it did take 3.5 hours and we would have walked 3 kilometres as the crow flies and about 10 kilometres up and down all the hills. They've really got to start printing their maps in 3D? Just lucky we arrived back just in time for beer and wine time.
Had a bit of red meat for tea, went for a very small walk around the town centre and retired to our room. Looking forward to getting back to Prague and seeing the O'Tooles again tomorrow!!!
